Short Residential Ensemble Courses for Recorder Players at Higham Hall

Nestled on the edge of England's stunning Lake District, Higham Hall is a haven for creative spirits and curious minds. ​​

Develop your skills and explore new repertoire with a friendly group of like-minded players, expertly led by Mary Tyers. We will aim to study three pieces in depth, one each from the renaissance, baroque and more modern periods, and enjoy playing a few other pieces ‘for fun’ if time permits. Participants should be able to play more than one size of recorder.

Playing Levels

Course participants should:
  • Be able to play more than one size of recorder (preferably both F and C instruments)
  • Know fingerings for 2 octaves including accidentals found in keys up to 3 sharps and 3 flats
  • Be comfortable sight-reading moderately difficult rhythms

Participant Materials

Materials to be brought by participants:
  • Recorders - all sizes that you play at A=440, including great bass and contrabass
  • A music stand and a pencil
