Descant/Tenor Range: low C to high A.
Treble Range: low F to high D
Keys: to two sharps and two flats. However, additional sharps and flats may occur as accidentals
Time Signatures: tunes predominantly in two/four, three/four, four/four and ‘common’ time; two/two and ‘cut common’ time; plus occasional tunes in three/eight or six/eight
Note values: Semi-breves, minims, crotchets, quavers, dotted crotchet quaver and a few semiquavers
A small number of ornaments may be used in a handful of pieces

Flow Gently Sweet Afton & Nancy’s Fancy: Descant/Tenor
£10 Two lovely melodies, which I love playing simply because they put a smile on my face. The first is a setting of Robbie Burn’s famous poem Flow Gently Sweet Afton, and the second is a Country Dance Tune known as Nancy’s Fancy or Miss Colcroft’s Favourite. Our focus will be on controlling the breathing, and developing the smooth legato articulation needed for the long, cantabile phrases of Flow Gently; contrasted with the light, dancing articulation and neat finger work which characterises Nancy’s Fancy. £10 An elegant Boree, by a famous late 18th century composer; providing a delightful example of a graceful, light on its feet, double time dance. The focus is on developing articulation to really make the music sound ‘en demi-pointe’ (on tip- toe), this video also includes a short introduction to baroque trills. The main focus is on weighting and unweighting notes to give the piece shape and texture. £10 A transcription of Wolfgang’s well known, but slightly cheeky, Minuet in C from his second Divertimento for three basset horns; and as a little side relish, a simple but charming Boureé attributed to Wolfgang’s father, Leopold. No really difficult technical passages but a focus on mastering a variety of neat articulation details; managing a gentle ritenuto or two; and enjoying the playfulness of the short chromatic passages.
